Recovery from LASIK and PRK is a bit different, and knowing what to expect can help you feel more prepared and at ease.
You’ll go home with a bandage contact lens to protect your eye. Expect your vision to be blurry, and your eyes may feel sore, gritty, or light-sensitive. Rest your eyes, avoid screens, and bright lights.
It’s normal to feel significant discomfort, tearing, and light sensitivity during this time. Use prescribed eye drops exactly as instructed to reduce pain and prevent infection. Keep wearing sunglasses and avoid touching or rubbing your eyes.
Your surgeon may remove the bandage contact lens once the surface of your eye (epithelium) has healed. You should start to feel more comfortable, though your vision may still be a bit blurry.
Discomfort fades, and your vision slowly starts to clear up. During this period, you can usually return to work or light daily activities. Keep using your eye drops and follow all instructions from your doctor.
Your vision continues to get sharper week by week. Night glare, halos, or dryness may still happen, but should improve with time.
